Repetitive and rambling
By Rainy Day Reader
According to the intro, "How to be the Luckiest Person Alive" is supposed to "unleash the core that will drive you from desire to ambition to meaning." Readers can be forgiven if they are still a confused. This book isn't The Secret and it's not going to help you figure out what your life means. It also won't talk about luck.

So what does the book actually cover? A lot. An awful lot. Everything from whether to buy a house, what to do when you're suddenly wealthy, why to avoid college, and how to fire employees. It's nominally about some very high-level generalities about running startup businesses.

The biggest problem is that everything is in lists. Long lists. Long lists with little supporting detail or emphasis. Any real points quickly get lost as he races from one bullet to the next, with no hint which is essential, which is a joke and which is just filler. In one classic chapter, he rattles off over 80 "rules" for a business. Some some like crucial, vital pieces of information like "get a customer" and "be profitable". These rules sound like they can make or break a business and should always be followed. Other rules sound like handy tips, like "have killer parties" and "at Christmas, donate money to every customer's favorite charity." By the time you've droned through ten pages, everything blurs and the really key ideas (whichever they were) are lost. And since it is just a long list of rules, most readers will forget them before the chapter is done.

After he goes through several anecdotes including an uncomfortable chapter when he seems fixated on how much sex and drugs he did in college, the useful content more or less fizzes out. There's no real conclusion and nothing to wrap it up. Instead, as if to ensure that we forget everything, we get almost 100 pages of direct reprints of various blog articles which are, you guessed it, more lists. And since they were blog posts, each chapter is disconnected from everything which came before and after.

He writes very well as a blogger. The list format is a natural fit and writing short, self-contained essays is a virtue. As a book however, it is a failure. My advice is to subscribe to his blog and skip the book.

As an Altucher fan, I am very disappointed
By JO
I am a regular reader of James Altucher's blog, and immediately purchased this book when I learned of it. I was excited to read this, but am very disappointed. The book is basically a copy and paste rehash of his blog posts. On his blog, he admits that it took him three weeks to put this book together. It shows. The book is full of misspellings and typos. One of the chapters invites readers to leave a comment in the comment section - obviously something that should have been edited out when pasting from his blog.

I really wanted to like this book, however it is so sloppy that it is almost unreadable.

This Book Eats Your Time Worse Than All Those Blogs & FaceBook
By Tim Atkinson
This book falls into the Janis Joplin category "It's so good don't ever start." It's really hard not to read another chapter. I found myself reading instead of working. I am buying more copies for my entrepreneur buddies.

Altucher has screwed up more deals, passed up more opportunities, and utterly thrown away more money than anybody I know. He tells you exactly how he did it. As he points out, you learn most from your mistakes, and he's learned a lot.

I've read the other reviews. They all are truthful. Your expectations will become your reality.

So just buy the book, OK? Your Margarita last night cost more. But this is funny and lasts longer.

Review
This full-size (81/2" x 11") paperback book written by Gavin D. S. Harper was a fun read for this longtime rocketeer (since 1966). True to its title, the book is focused on various aspects of model rocketry and continually emphasizes safety. Even with fourteen years in HPR, I found the material interesting and informative. The projects and information described in the book vary from simple to quite complex. Projects include basic model rocketry, staging, clustering, launch systems, recovery systems, wind tunnels, payloads, and more. The work is well illustrated with both pictures and schematics. In addition to step-by-step instructions, there are good technical tips, and it is all written in an easy-to-follow order. There are also numerous other features in addition to "build" projects. A brief discussion of rocketry history starts the book, ranging from the invention of black powder to the U.S. manned moon landing. Real rocket science interspersed in each chapter simply but accurately explains much of the physics of rocketry. The more technical aspects of our hobby are presented toward the end of the book. These features include rocket math, flight computers, and camera rockets. This book works well with fun parent/child activities. Simple motors can be put together from 35mm film cans with propellant components such as vinegar and Alka-Seltzer tablets. More complex motors using hydrochloric acid with hydrogen peroxide are also detailed. The wind-tunnel segment was very practical, and I wish that I'd had this available in my younger years when designing my early models. Chapter 5 is a particularly valuable section for the beginner. There are descriptions and pictures of theconstruction techniques of all parts of a simple model rocket. It then goes on to cover multistage rockets, boost-gliders, cone rockets, and flying saucers. Probably the most difficult part of successful rocketry, whether it be of model or mid- or high-power, is the recovery system. Chapter 6 has a very good series of sections on various recovery methods and even includes a descent-rate table. The end of Chapter 6 includes articles on constructing strobes for night launches. Chapter 7 covers launching of model rockets. Again, some very good parent/child projects are described in word and illustration. Several practical launch controllers and pads are described, including construction of a tower launcher. More advanced items, such as clustering and igniters, are also detailed. The latter chapters discuss more advanced subjects, such as rocket math, aerial photography (still and movie), Barrowman stability, altitude determination, and flight computers. Some of the features I found most interesting were the items about making black powder and the explanation of nozzles and aerodynamics. The book is an easy read in both the length of each feature and the writing style. Do not expect any HPR information, simply enjoy the book for what it is: a good beginners guide that also is interesting to the experienced rocketeer. If you are a high power enthusiast who is into EX/research motors, ignore the warning on page 9 of the book. To find out what that is, check out 50 Model Rocket Projects for the Evil Genius.

Outstanding Book of Rocketry Ideas
By JMGrant
I volunteer at our local school, mentoring a science and technology after school program using model rocketry as a learning tool. Being an avid hobby rocketeer for more than 40 years, I've decided to broaden my own horizons, as well.

While looking for material to serve both interests, I stumbled across "50 Model Rocket Projects for the Evil Genius," by Gavin D.J. Harper. I was familiar with some of the other similarly titled books, but oddly, none of the local bookstores carry this title, so I ordered it on Amazon.com.

Mr. Harper has taken an already exciting hobby and said, "Hey, if you think that's fun, try this!"

The name suggests this book is not written for the absolute beginner, true, but even though you do need experience to construct some of the more advanced projects, Mr. Harper has a writing style that anyone should be able to follow along with and get an idea of the skills they should be developing. By the same token, if you're an evil genius, you'll find a plethora of ideas that you probably never thought of, or that needed updating.

And as an instructor, you'll find another great resource of how you might share information and inspire your students to be competing in various arenas. Whether it's a science fair, industrial arts, or even an international category, this book definitely has ideas for some very competitive projects with enough information and detailed plans to get the project accomplished. And, where they'll shine, and what the competition should be about, is demonstrating their mastery of understanding and skills.

In short, Mr. Harper's "50 Model Rocket Projects for the Evil Genius" should inspire our children to learn, and give us old guard something new to experiment with; either way, it'll be a welcomed addition to anyone's library.

Great way to spend time with kids.
By Christian K.
This is a great resource book. The projects follow a pretty easy progression, from very easy and basic to more advanced complicated. My favorite part is where it start to show you how to build your own model rocket. As well it includes variations that include different science equipment like altimeters and cameras for recording flight. This book shows you how to build all these things. It shows you how model rocketry it great for teaching the basics for all kinds of engineering like design, electrical, aerospace, chemical, and even some computer programming. Great a way to spend quality time with kids while building something which will inspire them with fire and smoke.

Incomplete instuctions.
By ojait2
although I tried justifying the cost of the book by finding sections of the book "helpful", this was offset by unfinished instructions. Specifically, in chapter 6 project 18, 'Build a strobe beacon'. The author instructs you to disassemble a flash camera down to the circuit board. Although he states that the circuit board will be modified he stops short of instructing you how! As for the books cover title description, Mr. Harper, regarding the projects therein; they are not 'Evil'(just lacking in creativity) and anyone with a moderate amount of intelligence can accomplish these projects (except for #18 which you failed to complete). Now if I can suggest a "truly" Evil Genius book, that has complete instructions with twice as many projects, check-out Brad Graham and Kathy McGowan's books. Some stimulating and unique writing worth the cost.

Not that bad...
By W. Rollow
This book is not easy. It is definately a book that makes you work to learn the language. Their are two major problems with this book: the forms are set up in the British system (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative) and it does a shotty job of introducing the grammar.

If you have learned Latin in the American system, then it will be an annoying transition to Greek if you use this book, but if you work hard and get the grammar down, this book can be very rewarding.

Another book that I would recommend over this one is Chase and Phillips, which focuses more on grammar then on translation, but does a great job.

Tough going, but valuable
By Compulsive Bookbuyer
Before you buy into this book series, go clear off your desk. You're going to need a lot of space to spread out your Reading Greek library.
At a minimum, you will need two books: the "Text," which includes Greek readings with brief English introductions, and "Grammar, Vocabulary and Exercises," (GVE) which includes the actual pedagogical materials to guide you through the Text's readings. You'll need both books open at the same time to do your work.
Two books might not be enough if you're studying on your own. You will also want to pick up "An independent study guide to Reading Greek." This book gives slightly more in-depth discussion of the vocabulary and grammatical points covered in GVE, translations of the Text, and answers to the GVE exercises. And if you're teaching yourself, you can pick up "The teachers' notes to Reading Greek." This book gives tips on how to manage the materials in the two basic books. If you know a little Greek before you start, this book helps you figure out what strategy the authors are pursuing.
But you're not done. There's a thin "Greek vocabulary" that goes with the series. It provides all the vocabulary for the Text in one place. And there is a nice history of ancient Greece that complements the text, "The world of Athens." This book provides background on Greek culture, politics, and arts. The independent study guide cross-references sections in "The world" to chapters in the "Reading Greek" books. Very helpful when you come across a cultural reference and wonder what it means.
But wait--that's not all. If you can make it through all these books, there are two readers to continue your studies. One is an anthology of classic Greek texts, the other an introduction to the later, New Testament Greek. I hope someday to be in a position to make use of them.
One last thing. If you're like me and need to hear a language to learn it, you should listen to the audio tape that accompanies the series. Be warned that the audio quality is not so good. The recordings are rather noisy, making it hard to hear exactly how the speakers are pronouncing things. But since no one really knows how Attic Greek sounded, maybe you don't need to listen that closely.
Finally, concerning the value of the texts themselves: I find this series difficult to use, but worthwhile. In lesson one, the authors teach you the Greek alphabet and then drop you right into a seven page Greek story. (Perhaps the authors were inspired by that girl in Nabokov's Pnin who thought that, "once you learn the Cyrillic alphabet, you can read 'Anna Karamazov' in the original!") The vocabulary for the first lesson alone must number over 150 words. This approach makes for tough going at first. I can imagine many people give up half way through lesson one. I know I did. Then I spent a few months with a good Koine Greek program, one with better scaffolding for the beginner (William Mounce's,) before coming back to Reading Greek.
Bottom line: these books are well done, but dense and very demanding. If you're studying Greek on your own, you'll require either a lot of persistence--or assistance from other texts--to get you over the hump at the beginning of the course.

Good reading selections, patchy grounding
By Strategos
As other reviewers have noted, the series is ungainly and one needs to have a minimum of three of the books (text, grammar and vocabulary, reader's guide)and possibly a fourth (vocabulary alone)before going on to the intermediate reading selections, of which there are now three.
But more importantly the evident strengths of the series are mixed with equally important weakness. It's indeed exciting to begin to read simplified Greek text from the first lesson, within a very few to be reading only slightly adapted extracts from the great authors, and to end with original passages from Demosthenes, Euripides, Herodotus, and Homer. All the selections (quite a few from Aristophanes and Plato)and settings (adapted from Thucydides for the time of the plague in Athens) are fascinating and authentic.
On the other hand, there are at least two problems apart from the awkwardness of using three or four books together. After the first seven or eight lessons, the level of difficulty gets exponential not so much in absorbing, but in retaining the grammatical complexity. The exercises are just too few to be really helpful in this regard. By the time the student finishes the basic text, the base is insufficient to go on reading other texts with facility.
A second problem is the diffuseness of the texts: a smattering of many different styles and types of ancient Greek does not really provide focus. As the language kept evolving, with the simplest being the koine, it's perhaps a mistake not to start with grounding first in this form. Alternatively, much more emphasis on Homer could equally help provide a base from which to expand. The most difficult authors in some ways are in the classical Attic (Demosthenes, Aristophanes, Plato). Again, it could have been a better strategy, even keeping the focus only on these, to concentrate on say, Plato.
To sum up, my suggestion would be to use this series with some caution: It's quite effective to acquire some of the basics, and reading all the text in the first volume is certainly a satisfying experience. But for a more thorough base in ancient Greek, it may be better to: (i) master the koine of the New Testament; (ii) focus on Homeric Greek with Pharr's text; (iii) and, acquire depth in the Attic dialect with either of different texts which rely on a single author (Hansen's course uses extracts from Plato; in the older tradition, Mather and Hewitt provide the whole of Xenophon's Anabasis in an excellent, annotated version).

I am WELL done on these "You know you liked it" harlequins.
By Kindle Customer
It's probably been done before but thankfully I've never read a story were the H drugs the h ( with his mother's help) so he can marry her, even though she's said no, and continues to verbally, physically and mentally abuse her till the end.
This is the second sheik book, comic version, that I've read where the h says "no, stop" before and after and the H says her body betrays her. I mean, in some she's even crying!
True to script the h doesn't realize how she feels until he keeps taking her and tells her to admit to herself she enjoys it. Admit she loves her abuser I guess.
Thankfully we're all allowed to have different likes & dislikes in what we read but this story left me feeling deeply disturbed.
I read Harlequin Presents for the romance, the falling in love and yeah, the hot CONSENSUAL sex. I found all three completely lacking in this.
I'm only writing this to save others money who can't decide after the small sample showing the loving stepfather. The rest is the h and the knuckle dragging alpha. Maybe lookup and read the paperback version's reviews also.
I give it zero stars.

ES6 aims to keep JavaScript accessible for casual developers, even after adding so many new features.

This book will provide step-by-step instructions on how to apply ES6 features instead of old JavaScript hacks and methods.

The book will start by introducing all the built-in objects of ES6 and how to create ES6 custom Iterators. Next, it will teach you how to write asynchronous code in a synchronous style using ES6.

Moving on, the book will teach how to use Reflect API to inspect and manipulate object properties. Next, it teaches how to create proxies, and use it to intercept and customize operations performed on objects.

Finally, it explains old modular programming techniques such as IIFE, CommonJS, AMD, and UMD and also compares it with ES6 modules and how ES6 modules can increase the performance of websites when used.

Useful, but Needs Editing
By Boots
I feel bad giving this a two-star review.

There are countless ways to learn ES6 (now ES2015) online. I like books, though. So, I got this book because it was a book, and I wanted to learn more about ES2015 from a book.

I really don't want to insult the author or its reviewers. They're all clearly competent developers, and the book treats a lot of interesting topics. However, it also reads like it skipped several rounds of copy-editing. The english is incredibly difficult to parse at times, and there are *a lot* of minor (but annoyingly frequent) syntax errors in the code samples (e.g., "Var" instead of "var", missing spaces after certain keywords, etc.).

I'm 100 pages in, and I feel like I significantly overpaid for this book. That being said, I'm still learning things.

Good initial survey of ES6 with helpful examples
By Jim Fathman
I like this book. As one reviewer mentioned, the English is a little rugged at times, but as an early entrant in the ES6 book market it has merit. The book is a concise survey of what is new in ES6, and the examples are succinct and to the point. The examples sometimes include a little twist that gives additional insight into JavaScript technique.

My interests lean to server-side JavaScript, so I ran the book examples using Node.js v4 and Babel.js with good results. I learned a lot about ES6 and am satisfied with the book and the time I spent with it.

I would give the book five stars for technical content, but have to take back a star for the unsteady English. If you can look past that minor flaw, and you want to get started learning what's new with ES6, I think you will enjoy this book.

This book was clearly not edited thoroughly--or at all for that matter--and was very poorly written (I don't intend to be mean, I'm trying to be as accurate as possible, especially considering I'm a fellow educator in the programming arena) . Proper grammar and clarity are an important part of educational materials and neither should be overlooked. The writing is so poor to the point that it's cognitively taxing to follow what the author is saying. The code examples are also so basic to the point that they aren't effective, not to mention there is no scaffolding in this book whatsoever.
