I have made just one soup, the one on the cover, and Oh My Gosh! This one easy and incredibly tasty soup was worth the purchase price. Carrie makes this so easy as she lays out the steps in a way that is easy to read and follow. She explains why you do the things she tells you and what can happen if you don't. Plus, she is funny as heck! Who'd thought, an entertaining cookbook.

My husband bought me this as a stocking stuffer, so I can't be a verified buyer. Additionally, these recipes are all about healthy and high fiber. You won't find cans or bags or boxes of ingredients to add. Also, to answer a question by another review, you will need basic kitchen appliances, copper, slicer, scale, etc. She uses a Vitamix (I do too). I have no idea how well a basic blender would perform.

A good reference book which was recommended to me. Some of it is a little over my head but I do use it from time to time for a reference. There are many blends listed for every part of your body. I've made quite a few. The author seems very knowledgeable.

Awesome Book!

I just received this book. I have been a "Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil Distributor" for years. I ordered this book because what I liked about it is that not only does it tell you about each oil, it tells you how to use it, where to use it, and the biggie... it tells you which other oils the oil you are reading about can be mixed with. I hate to say it, but there are not a lot of books out there on essential oils that make it so easy for the beginner to get the total picture in one book. This book has it all. I ordered this book so that I can hand it out to customers who tell me that they know little about essential oils. This is a cute little book that will appeal to anyone interested in getting into essential oils. It is a very easy read and very informative. Very pleased with this purchase.

Good Book to Read about Police Stuff, not Necessarily for Writers.

Not as good as I hoped. A lot of information surrounding the real (or needed) stuff like how police work a situation. The author writes about what law enforcement do instead of how they do it or the 'how to" is wrapped with too much other stuff. For instance, one paragraph (and one page) starts, "Swat training is intense and extremely demanding. Standards for Swat teams nationwide were established in 1983..." It is only at the bottom of the page that Lofland begins to get to the logistics of how a Swat team acts--"A Swat high-risk entry team normally consists of six to ten officers..." The fact that Swat training is intense and demanding is something we all know, standards being established in 1983 is something we do not need to know. If you have the time and just want to read a book on police stuff, this is a good book; if you want a book to help you write police procedurals, this might not be what you're looking for.

Slightly out of date but an accurate and useful reference

This book is a must have for writers who need to cover police procedures in their stories but have only experienced these procedures through the eyes of Hollywood. Author Lee Loffland does an excellent job of both presenting the procedure, explaining the hows and whys of it, but also presenting methods to incorporate these procedures in your writing. Loffland takes very mundane and technical processes and places them before the layman in an understandable, and useable, format.

The only issue with this book is that, since technology has changed police procedures dramatically in the past few years, the techniques may be somewhat dated. The principles are still there, but the actual physical process may have changed. Digital fingerprint technology is an example, replacing almost all standard printing techniques. But these shortcomings are not a detriment to the book, just an area where an author may need to do some follow-up research. Which they should be doing anyway.

If you write in crime, mystery, thrillers or even many romance and drama genres, this is a reference work that should be on your bookshelf. Or electronic reader. Technology hasn't just changed police procedures...

A Sure-fire Winner

The subtitle for this book indicates that it was written primarily for the writers of crime books and crime-related short stories. But that is a much-too-narrow focus. This book is for anyone who is interested in police work, criminal investigations, and all of the aspects that fit under those two general categories. And it delves into these areas to a much greater depth than the ever-popular and ever-growing list of television programs that claim to be "reality-based" crime shows.

Nearly everybody is now familiar with terms such as crime scene investigation, autopsy, the exclusionary rule, blood spatter analysis, flash-bangs, DNA evidence, and the Miranda warning. But if you want to know what kind of equipment crime scene investigators need, what kind of training goes on in police academies, how long rigor mortis effects a corpse, what a "sally port" is, what kind of chemicals are used to make meth, or the difference between ASPs and shock sticks, this is the book for you.

Author Lee Lofland is well known to writers of crime novels mainly because of his expertise in the field, but also because of his clear, concise, and jargon-free writing style. He is a writer's writer, but he is also a reader's writer. His prose is clean and direct, his organization logical, and his coverage comprehensive.

I highly recommend this book for anyone--writer or non-writer--who wants to know what REALLY goes on during a criminal investigation, inside a courtroom, or behind prison walls.

You will devour this series!

I devoured this book. The main character and her feelings about her crush are a bit much but you get used to it. I grew to the love all the characters in their own way. She has an ability to move things with her mind and meets others along the way who also have their own gifts. Excellent love story. I purchased this as a kindle and it came as one with both this story and its sequel and included a steamy extra chapter. Best bang for your buck and when you speed through book one book 2 losing lila is there waiting! The series ended well which is what I like! If you like this book you will enjoy: The unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Darkest minds and the hourglass series or vise versa!

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About the Revolution in Morelos

It is easier to describe what this book is not than what it is. The book is not a biography of Emiliano Zapata. It is also not a general history of the Mexican Revolution. What the book is, is an exhaustive and detailed treatment of the Mexican Revolution in the State of Morelos, the events leading up to the Revolution, and the events following the assassination of Zapata and the end of the fighting. This is excellent history which is rich in detail. This reviewer's only criticism is that the book is so detailed that it is easy to get lost in the details.

The story of Zapata and the small farmers of Southern Mexico is another chapter in the endless struggle of the weak against the strong, the poor and disenfranchised against the rich. If you are reading history simply for pleasure, there are probably books about the Mexican Revolution with more of a narrative structure than this. Also, all you will learn about from this is the struggle in Morelos and Southern Mexico. There is little or nothing about Poncho Villa and his Division of the North. Still, this book is the definitive treatment of the struggle in the South.

A seminal work, a great read

This is one of the most important works of Latin American history, a highly readable account of the peasant uprising led by Emiliano Zapata in 1914. Womack's book is a social history, focusing on the long struggle of peasants in Morelos state, just south of Mexico City, to keep their communal lands, a struggle that became especially bitter with the encroachment of capitalist-style agriculture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a story of isolated and bloody uprisings, and of village elders who hid the papers granting the land to the campesinos (old parchments issued by the Spanih crown) by burying them under churches during times of war and turmoil. It is the story of Emiliano Zapata, a humble peasant who ends up leading a rebel army that takes Mexico City, and of his eventual betrayal and martyrdom in a hail of bullets. I read this book 15 years ago but the images from it are still etched in my memory. Read it if you want to understand Mexico and its history.

Great study. Beautiful book. For everyone who is concerned about the videos, they are available (until March 10, 2017 the videos are available), you can do the study for free by signing up to do the online study with Proverbs 31 Ministries. I just saw the first week's study on You Tube. Each week during the study, a video will be emailed to you. That is why I wanted to do the study now since the videos are free. If you want to do the study any other time, it would be a good idea to get a group of friends together and split the cost of the DVD.

I have worked through a few weeks of this study and find it is very well written and personal as well. I have not viewed the videos that accompany it, but find the workbook very applicable and doable all on its own.
