Excellent Introductory Book for VBA under Excel
By Aly M. Tawfik
I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about VBA under Excel. The book is very easy to follow. The author explains everything thoroughly in a step by step manner, in examples, and in a very easy language. The book does not need any solid programming background. I believe that any reader with little programming background would find the book to be very useful. Although the book is designed for novices, I believe it covers enough topics to cover anyone's basic needs. On the other hand, I would not suggest the book for anyone familiar with VBA under Excel and seeks to gain proficiency. The book is designed for novices. Finally, I believe that the only book aspect that requires improvement is the post-chapter exercises. I think the exercises are few in number, poor in quality, and need further development.

Excellent Starter Book
By Richard Ulrich
I'm a prof in Chemical Engineering and our department has decided to teach Excel VBA programming to our incoming freshmen. We're assuming that they have never programmed before. I looked at all the potential texts that I could find for this and this was the clear winner.

It starts assuming zero knowledge of what a program even is. This is characteristic of Chapra's books and I find it to be useful in teaching. Some might think the start is too simplistic but I believe it's appropriate and I tend to move on pretty quickly.

It's clearly written, concise, and has lots of examples and problems. It's not especially deep; as a teaching text I think you'll get through it long before the semester is over. I've found no significant errors and it works fine with Excel 2010.

If I might wax political, I'm not sure Excel VBA is the best language to start freshman off with if they have never programmed before. But, if you do, you should consider this text.

Wow . . . Never knew you could do all this
By Anna Barendt
Let me say, through free online tutorials I learned to make wonderful spreadsheets in Excel and utilize lots of cool shortcuts, etc., but just looking through this book and seeing all the other stuff I could learn to do in Excel made my little nerdy heart go pitter-patter. I also have VBA for Engineers, and my daughter, who is studying Environmental Engineering, is eyeing both my books . . . I would recommend this book.

Update: My daughter has since graduated from college as an engineer and is working in an environmental engineering firm. She has taken both my VBA books to help her write complex code that links with Surfer to create plume maps. (that's okay, I don't understand all that I just wrote either.) The take away is that this book is still relevant and helpful.

Great guide for beginnners!
By Marko Ramius
Not many pages, but it's still the best practical book written for wanna-be or start-up perfumer. Lots of specific information given on naturals and aromachemicals. Very valuable discussion on the benefits and limitations of GC/MS analysis in modern perfumery. A great need-to-know guide for beginners.

For the lay person that is not involved in the fragranceindustry thisbook sheds an entirely different light on perfumery. Perfumes are not a matter of attractiveness, they are a matter of chemistry, image, and clever marketing.

Some points raised are definitely better than average and other writings about Scrum
By BrettM
The book gives a high level overview to Scrum purely based on the Scrum guide. Some points raised are definitely better than average and other writings about Scrum.

Although it promotes the PSM I exam, the information is not actually correct to what is assessed; there are blatant errors. For example it claims the Product Owner is from the performing organisation, and not of the client - Scrum actually does not prescribe this but prefers the PO to be in the organisation that "owns" the product; thus maximising value. It indicates the backlog contains user stories, however the PSM talks about Product Backlog Items and these could be anything that constitutes building a product. User stories for example are common, but not mandatory in scrum.

The errors may just lead you to failing the exam.

Cosmopolitics I (Posthumanities), by Isabelle Stengers

From Einstein’s quest for a unified field theory to Stephen Hawking’s belief that we “would know the mind of God” through such a theory, contemporary science—and physics in particular—has claimed that it alone possesses absolute knowledge of the universe. In a sweeping work of philosophical inquiry, originally published in French in seven volumes, Isabelle Stengers builds on her previous intellectual accomplishments to explore the role and authority of science in modern societies and to challenge its pretensions to objectivity, rationality, and truth. For Stengers, science is a constructive enterprise, a diverse, interdependent, and highly contingent system that does not simply discover preexisting truths but, through specific practices and processes, helps shape them. She addresses conceptual themes crucial for modern science, such as the formation of physical-mathematical intelligibility, from Galilean mechanics and the origin of dynamics to quantum theory, the question of biological reductionism, and the power relations at work in the social and behavioral sciences. Focusing on the polemical and creative aspects of such themes, she argues for an ecology of practices that takes into account how scientific knowledge evolves, the constraints and obligations such practices impose, and the impact they have on the sciences and beyond. This perspective, which demands that competing practices and interests be taken seriously rather than merely (and often condescendingly) tolerated, poses a profound political and ethical challenge. In place of both absolutism and tolerance, she proposes a cosmopolitics—modeled on the ideal scientific method that considers all assumptions and facts as being open to question—that reintegrates the natural and the social, the modern and the archaic, the scientific and the irrational.Cosmopolitics I includes the first three volumes of the original work. Cosmopolitics II will be published by the University of Minnesota Press in Spring 2011.

Beautiful and challenging
By Tyler Champine
Beautiful and challenging, Stengers weaves the concept of 'an ecology of practices' through a nuanced philosophy of science in her masterpiece, Cosmopolitics.

Indecipherable
By anorakcity
I picked this up as someone who was read a fair share of continental philosophy and a large share of Bruno Latour's work and was hoping for something along those lines. Sadly I seem to have been mistaken, as this book is incredibly dense, and makes reference to so much scientific jargon that I couldn't follow any philosophical points the author was trying to make.

Review
We started working with Rory Fatt at the end of 2009 and at the time our marketing was basically reactive and not proactive. That all changed with the help of Rory, his staff and the mountains of exceptional ideas we received from them. We have taken control of our future now. We credit Rory with literally turning our lives around. Our business was up over 162% last year and that is continuing this year, as well. We can honestly say that working with Rory was the best single business decision we ever made. --Ann Maxwell Weisbrod, Mark Allens American Kitchen in Peru, Illinois

Since working with Rory, I'm seeing $8,000-$10,000 a month in customer growth, out of just three small sandwich shops in mid-Michigan, and I m getting about a $40 return on every dollar I spend. It s just incredible. It s really bringing me the lifestyle I was used to having before the economy crashed, and one that I can look forward to in the future. I ll actually be able to retire now! --Britton Slocum, Jersey Giant Subs in Lansing, Michigan

WOW! Help for the Independent Restaurant Owner is here. This is it.
By Greg Evans
I wish I had read this book 20 years ago when I first started in the restaurant. I've always said someone should write a book that will really help a restaurant owner. Well this is it! When I read this it really made me want to finish and get to work on my restaurant. That was it. I had been working (or should I say surviving)in my reaturant for 20 years. I was operating old school. I thought good food brought and kept cusomers. This book is about so much more. There were lots ideas and ways to make your restaurant better, your sales better, profits better and most of all have control of my life finally. And it wasn't even complicated. It's all actually pretty simple. I'll do more in the next 3 years than i did in the past 20. It's so nice to have a plan to make my restaurant profitable and my life enjoyable. Reading this book was like getting a complete set of encyclopedias on the restaurant business but in only one easy to read and understand book. I was done with it in 4 days. I can think of so many restaurantuers that need to read this.

It's more like a bunch of Ads marketed as a book..Don't want to be too harsh, but I'm extremely disappointed.
By Ron
Halfway into the book, and still haven't learned anything. Author goes off randomly, often goes on and on about useless & pointless things.

Had to actually FORCE myself to finish the book, if you could call it that..it's more like a bunch of Ads marketed as a book..
with stories & anecdotes inserted in between.

He advertises his services & other products constantly through out the book. Delivers almost no value, extremely general & barely delivers useful information,,
Don't want to be too harsh, but I'm extremely disappointed.

Fabulous!! Don't spend a dime more on marketing until you have read this!
By Bent Hansen
This is an entirely readable and straight forward book about restaurant marketing. Using specific examples and case studies, Rory explains the "why" and the "how" to marketing your restaurant. If you are spending ANY money at all on marketing, you really should read this book before you spend any more. My favorite part explains why customers are not created equal and shows how to identify your best customers and get more of them. This is NOT an esoteric book on marketing theory or case studies of national brand marketing (if you are looking for this, you need to buy a different book.) This is a book with REAL WORLD examples and ideas that are tested and proven. The things in this book can actually be easily implemented without a dedicated marketing department and will bring results.

Captulo Uno

Ustedes no tienen deudas?

“LOS MCINTYRE NO

TIENEN DEUDAS”.

—No— respondi Jim—. Ninguna hipoteca.

No parecan ricos.

Sue me mir fijamente.

—De verdad que quieres saber? —pregunt.

Asent sin decir palabra. Sue mir a Jim:

“DECIDIMOS PAGARNOS A NOSOTROS PRIMERO”.

Sue mir a Jim.

“VIGILAMOS NUESTRO FACTOR CAF LATTE”.

—Mir a Jim y a Sue.

—As es —interrumpi Sue—.

Ahora yo me senta realmente confundido.

Poco despus, yo tambin me ech a rer.

Jim me mir.

AHORA TE TOCA A TI

“Si yo pudiera ganar ms dinero”, aseguran, “sera rico”. Cuntas veces has odo a alguien decir eso? Cuntas veces te lo has dicho a ti mismo?

He aqu cmo luce la carrera:

VE A TRABAJAR… GANA DINERO… GASTA DINERO…

VE A TRABAJAR… GANA DINERO… GASTA DINERO…

Demasiado bsico
By F. Elizalde Rdz
