"And Who Shall Stand....?"

While an extraordinary reaction by a wartime pastor to man's inhumanity to man, with (spoiler here) an interesting twist to the reason for Christ's appearance in the world, I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping for re-assurance of purpose from an omnipotent God of intention. In all fairness however, within the limitations of a theatrical play, Rutenborn brilliantly manages to involve the audience in exploring their own violated sense of justice. In the final analysis, his pastoral attempt to help humanity explore the nature of God in The Sign of Jonah is both successful and satisfying. Consider as a" read".

Short but impactful.

Loved it and still love it. I have read it several times (only 75 pages) and still cannot get through the ending without choking up. When no one wants to take the blame for all the evil mankind is capable of, even ourselves, we end up shaking our fist at God and blaming Him. This play reveals in such an artful and beautiful way, that we have a God who, although is NOT to blame, willingly takes the blow we deserve. Can't say anymore.....a must read

The kindle format for the iPad messes up the format and does not allow pictures to be aligned with their captions/legends. This makes it very difficult to study the images effectively/without constantly flipping between pages

Good supplement to class

This is the recommended textbook for our histology class. I don't read every word of it. I only look at the graphs and the explanation, and that really helps. My professor also uses a lot of graphs from this textbook, so having a more detailed explanation helps a lot. Overall, this is a clear, concise textbook that's not completely necessary but a good supplement.

Anne Browning Walker grew up in North Carolina, moved to Boston, and now resides in Washington, DC. She is a career writer and researcher, and has worked in government, with nonprofits, and for business. She lives with her altogether too impressive, but wonderful husband. When not working or writing, you can find her completing a crossword, competing in Jeopardy!, curled up with a good romance novel, or catching some bad reality TV with her best girlfriends.

Anne Browning Walker, published author for the Huffington Post and Publishers Weekly, is a career writer and researcher who has turned her pen to fiction with her debut novel, The Booby Trap. The contemporary romance novel explores the impact of the assumptions made about others based on occupations or appearances. An avid reader of fiction, particularly romance, Anne set out to write a romance novel where the heroine reflected the many smart, savvy, thoughtful, and driven women she calls friends. After earning a B.A. in political science at Duke University (2004) and her M.A. in international affairs at George Washington University (2006), Walker joined the staff of Governor Deval Patrick of Mass. in the Legislative Affairs Office. As the Legislative Aide to the Governor, she was responsible for researching bills, drafting briefs, and working with state legislators. In 2009, Walker moved to Washington, DC to continue her research and writing for business, academic, political, and non-profit entities. Her most recent work was for the national non-profit organization Blessings in a Backpack, named the 2012 Charity of the Year by People Magazine. Smart, sarcastic & intriguing

To paraphrase Thoreau, I would consider it a great compliment if you read this review and decide to buy The Booby Trap. I'm not a "chick-lit" kinda guy, but I found it very smart, sarcastic and intriguing. The story is a terrific mash-up of feminism, deception, and the breaking down of stereotypes. It also bridges the worlds of academia, Hooters, and on-line dating in a unique way. You know where it's all probably heading, but it's a fun journey getting there, and Browning Walker creates a few compelling twists you don't see coming. Loved the influences of Gloria Steinem and Henry David Thoreau. "Man up" or "Woman up" and give it a shot -- I absolutely predict you'll enjoy it.

Refreshing, smart read

I took a look at this book at the prodding of my wife. It's a terrific read, full of wit and humor and written without the cliches that plague romantic chick-lit fiction. I'm by no means an expert in the genre, but if more books read like this, I would certainly read romantic fiction more often. If you're on the fence about throwing down a few bucks to get this book -- don't hesitate. Get it and you won't be sorry.

So the cover represents the book well, the red stillettos that Bambi has to wear whilst working at "The Booby Trap" The Booby Trap is a bar modeled along the same type of business as the "Hooters" chain of establishments. The women are the "typical bimbo" types with blonde hair, big boobs, with low cut tops and short skirts. These women give the men the impression that they want to see,"eye candy", "a dumb women to do their bidding who isn't so intelligent". Bambi manages to get the job at The Booby Trap from Joe one of her mums ex-boyfriends, to supplement her income whilst she is gaining her Ph.D. Bob was the one good guy her mum ever dated. Bambi's mum dated some real sleazy guys, guys that tried to take advantage of Bambi, though Bambi's mum preferred the sleazy guys and their stories than anything Bambi ever told her. thats just one reason why Bambi no longer has anything to do with her.
Bambi is at work as usual when "fate" steps in and she happens to meet Trip Whitley. Trip and his family own the extremely successful dating agency called Belle's and Beau's. Trip's father is in talks with a PR firm to come up with the next campaign to improve the business and they come up with the idea of Trip finding a woman to have an actual relationship with, rather than his usual love em and leave em one night stands.
Trip see's Bambi at The Booby Trap and see's a dumb blonde with low tops to match her low intelligence. Trip is of course presuming wrongly, very wrongly and Bambi just want to teach him a lesson he will never forget. Neither are truly looking for a relationship never mind love! So Trip offers to pay Bambi to pose as his steady girlfriend for the PR firm, and she reluctantly agrees as she desperately needs the money to fund a trip to a conference in London that would seriously help her with her Ph.D and future career.
So does the relationship stay a purely platonic business transaction, or is cupid at play as well as fate? Does Bambi teach Trip a valuable lesson? what does he think/do when he realizes that Bambi isn't just "a set of boobs, and high heels"? and why doesn't Bambi speak to her mother?
So did I enjoy the book? Yes, I really enjoyed it. I don't actually usually a lot of chick lit but I really liked this book. Would I recommend this book? Yes, and you don't necessarily have to be a big fan of chick lit to enjoy and appreciate this book. Would I read more by Anne Browning Walker. Would I read a Bk#2? If there was one, yes.

About the Author
Joseph Michael Straczynski was born born July 17, 1954. He is an American writer and producer. Straczynski has long been a comic fan and began writing comics in the late 1980s. His work in comics includes the adaptations of Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, The Twilight Zone, Star Trek and Babylon 5. In 1999 he created Rising Stars for Top Cow/Image Comics. It's a interesting way to end the comic book series but also a good way to start the new movie out but in the new movie he reheal in the book he can't as far as we know so I would say five for good idea an five more for it being included in the new terminator movie even the movie not based off of this comic book

Fast-Paced Adventure for older Tweens

Had my 11YO son read this (he's a 39 clues fan) and tell me his thoughts.

Things he liked:
+ Lots of adventure
+ Characters were easy to relate to
+ He liked the characters
+ Fast paced - a lot happened quickly
+ Had all the elements needed for a fun story: good plot, likeable good guys, rotten bad guys, a little scary and a lot of excitement and mystery.

Things parents might want to know:
= The villains might be scary to younger children
= There is a small bit of violence
= There are some things that are not realistic

After a brain picking session, my son related some of the books events. I asked him how he felt about the violent part (wasn't bad so don't want to provide a spoiler), he said it was no big deal. Compared to what kids see on TV and read in other books, it probably wasn't. I heard the villains were really creepy, he said it wouldn't be good if they weren't. OK. There were some parts he told me about that I thought were totally unrealistic. His take was that it's just a story.

There's also cards that come with these books. We didn't get them with our copy. My son said he usually didn't use them anyway, but just liked reading the books. That tells me that the story is good enough to carry itself without the multi-media aspect. My 20YO daughter, however, loves to get her hands on the cards and check out the online stuff.

Lots of ecitement, nonstop action and around-the-world quests

Two years have passed since Amy and Dan survived the hunt for the 39 clues. The now 16- and 13-year-olds have settled into the rebuilt mansion of their dear grandmother, with Uncle Fiske and Nellie as legal guardians. Both have grown and matured some; Amy even has a steady boyfriend named Evan. She still stutters sometimes, but has more confidence in herself. She knows that she will never escape being a Cahill, so she has been preparing herself for anything with constant workouts, self-defense lessons, and a fancy command center with lots of high-tech stuff. Dan, on the other hand, is bored. After racing around the world on an important quest, eighth grade seems rather trivial. He even drops into periods of depression. But before long, things get interesting --- and life-threatening --- again.

The Cahills are finally attempting a peaceful reunion, having called a cease fire. The older generation hasn't quite gotten the hang of it yet, but the younger cousins have actually become friends. Sort of. This is good as there's another enemy lurking about, and the Cahills will have to band together in order to survive. The evil Vespers kidnap seven of the Cahills to use as ransom: Nellie, Reagan, Uncle Fiske, Natalie, Alistair Oh, Ted, and 12-year-old Phoenix Wizard. The Vespers are using the hostages to force Dan, Amy and their cousins scrambling to steal a priceless painting of a severed Medusa head.

But nothing is as it seems, and trust is treacherous. Dan and Amy have serious doubts that they will be able to rescue Nellie and the other hostages in time. While Amy hits the library for research and reaches out to other Cahill resources, Dan starts on a backup plan. At the end of the clue hunt, they had destroyed the very dangerous 39-ingredient formula invented by Gideon Cahill that would have given a person absolute power. No human should have that kind of power. But one copy of the formula still exists --- in Dan's photographic memory. Dan starts collecting the rare ingredients to recreate the formula that he will use on himself to save Nellie.

This new spinoff series from the original 39 Clues books starts off with an adventurous bang. Gordon Korman takes the lead novel and does an outstanding job with lots of excitement, nonstop action and more around-the-world quests. In the first book, he shoots Dan and Amy off to Florence, Italy, to hunt down the famous and grotesque painting of the severed Medusa head. He uses lots of vivid imagery to set the scenes, giving readers a unique look at the story. Dan and Amy are a bit older, with different hurdles to overcome and mountains to traverse; Amy is in a serious relationship, and Dan is struggling with some depression. This may explain why the humor is a bit keyed down here as compared to previous installments, though the story does have some funny parts.

Keep your eyes roving for those clues stashed in the pages! Book Two is due out in December 2011 courtesy of Jude Watson.

Cahills vs Verspers a new series begins

Having read the entire 39 Clues first 11 books
I was a little bit disappointed with the new series.
They went to some length in the previous books to say how the Cahills are the smartest most powerful family in the world, and here they have them being blackmailed into committing criminal acts by the Vespers.
It is good light reading even if dubious in plot and setting a bad example for ethics.

I give piano lessons, and this book with so many Disney movie songs has motivated one of my students to really learn notes so she can play the pieces. Note range is 1 1/2 octaves above and below middle C. Book is well made.

Pretty good book

I bought this for my 15 year old daughter who loves Disney and is in Level 2B in piano. Being 15, she wasn't really getting into the regular lesson books. They are geared toward younger kids. She would rather play something she knows and does like a challenge. Some of the songs are attainable at that level when she works hard and some are harder for later. It's also fun for me, a fairly advanced player, because I can easily sight read them for my girls to sing along with.

About the Author
DENISE FLECK is an award-winning author and animal care instructor who developed the curriculum for her Pet First-Aid & CPCR Classes after training with 8 national organizations, practicing, attending seminars and practicing some more. She has appeared on Animal Planet’s "Groomer Has It" and "Pit Boss," A&E’s "Kirstie Alley’s Big Life," CBS-TV’s "The Doctors," CNN Headline News, PBS-TV’s "Lassie’s Pet Vet" and the KTLA Morning News in Los Angeles. She has twice been a finalist as Pet Industry’s Woman of the Year and a speaker at Pet Sitters International and at other conferences. Denise developed the material for and teaches a 20 week course in Animal Care through the Burbank Unified School District for high school juniors & seniors at the Burbank Animal Shelter in Southern California. “As the proud instructor, I hope one of my students will cure a debilitating canine disease or end animal homelessness, but if each student adopts a shelter pet (particularly a Senior), shares with friends the need for spay/neuter or never harms or judges a dog by his breed alone, I’ll still wag my tail,” she smiles. Great info wrapped into a sweet story

I love how Denise can tell the story so that it's appealing to kids, all the while making her point loud and clear. Introducing dogs is so important and Start Off on the Right Paw reminds us to take the time to do it correctly and supervised so that everyone is safe. And I love that she added in a bit about pet first aid too. Great reminders and a sweet story.

Since I liked Denise Flecks first book Don't Judge a Book by its cover I decided to buy this one and was not disappointed. If your considering added another doggie to your pack this is a grew read. I think these books should be in school libraries, their great.
