About the Author
Ron E. M. Clouzet is director of the NAD Evangelism Institute (NADEI), professor of Christian Ministry and Pastoral Theology at the SDA Theological Seminary at Andrews University, and field secretary of the North American Division. Born and raised in Argentina, Dr. Clouzet is finishing postdoctoral research in Systematic Theology from the University of South Africa, studying the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the writings and experience of Ellen G. White. Dr. Clouzet is married to Lisa Clouzet and they have three young-adult children, Christoffer, Alexander, and Stefani.

One of the Best Books I've Read in awhile!

This book is absolutely spot on. Our Denomination's greatest need is for the Holy Spirit. The author early in this book got me to thinking, "The Holy Spirit is WITH us, but is He IN us? Something that really turned my head inside out. I got to thinking about it and all my life I've been confident the Holy Spirit is with me, but He wasn't IN me. Now I know why, thanks to this book and Dr. Clouzet.

I will spend time praying for the Holy Spirt to be IN me and to help me to love others as Christ loves us. I've been way too selfish for way too long. It's time for a change and I'm going to ask God for it.

Dr. Clouzet has chapters on various topics like speaking in tongues, etc that tie in with the concept of the Holy Spirit. Every chapter has a true story of a missionary or someone who was affected by the Holy Spirit. One gripping story is about a woman who was married to an abusive spouse. She nearly divorced him but was encouraged to pray for the Holy Spirit. She did for 3 months and things got worse but then one day it changed and got better. One year later, her husband had totally changed and their marriage was in good shape. Then the grandmother came to watch over their 6-month old son while she (wife) and her husband went out on a date and accidentally left the cap off of her prescription drugs. The baby boy managed to find the pills and swallowed all of them. He didn't make it. The family was devastated and the husband ran away leaving her to grieve on her own. She was reluctant to pray but she did and after a month the husband came back to give her support and the whole family - her parents and her in-law's all became Christians because they saw how the Holy Spirit was working in her.

There are several other awesome stories in the book that made my hair stand on my head; but I'll let you buy the book and enjoy reading it.

Adventism's Greatest Need

Many good spiritual insights into the necessity for the Holy Spirit to energize and galvanize the Christian church. The book is filled with practical suggestions into how the church can give greater emphasis to the presence of the Holy Spirit. Very good book on the subject.

This book was given to me and my husband. When we read it, we bought it for all our friends! It's a thought-provoking look at ourselves and a call to do the work God has called us to do. I haven't enjoyed a book so much in a long time.

His depictions of pimp bars, drug addiction, petty crime, prison culture and outlaw life all drawn from first-hand experience astound the faint-hearted, as Pinero poetizes an outlaw vernacular meant to shock proper, bourgeois culture.
This long-awaited collection includes previously published and never-before-published poems; ten plays, including Short Eyes, which was later made into a film and won the 1973-1974 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play, The Sun Always Shines for the Cool, and Eulogy for a Small Time Thief.
A co-founder of the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Pinero died at the age of 41, leaving behind a compelling legacy of poetry and plays that reveal the harsh, impoverished lives of his urban Puerto Rican community.

About the Author
MIGUEL PINERO was a screenwriter, playwright, poet, and actor. He appeared in and wrote for the television series Miami Vice, and had writing credits for the Baretta Series and The Jericho Mile. As a playwright, he is best known for his controversial play Short Eyes, which won the Obie Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best American Play of the 1973-1974 season. Piñero's other published works include a collection of plays, The Sun Always Shines for the Cool, a book of poems, La Bodega Sold Dreams, and a collection of plays, Outrageous One-Act Plays.

A fascinating read and excellent addition to any literary studies collection

A collection of his various printed works including some previously unpublished work, "Outlaw" is a fascinating read and excellent addition to any literary studies collection.

Mathematical Models Serve Society

One of the purpose of the book "Mathematical Modeling: A Case Studies Approach" is to demonstrate the usefulness of mathematical modeling. A case in point would be the chapter two of the book. The title of the chapter is "Will the valve hold?" The chapter is about an engineer attempting to determine whether a valve would hold when a temporary rock plug was removed from a water tunnel. The story occurred on the year 1961. The engineer had only 24 hours to determine whether the valve would hold or not. In order to solve the problem, he built a mathematical model, which modeled the motion of the water. Having developed an equation to model the motion of water, the next challenge was to solve the equation. Unfortunately, the equation could not be solved, because it was ill-posed. Therefore, he had (1) to revise the model and (2) to change the initial conditions. Eventually, the engineer determined whether the value would hold.

Other interesting modeling includes determining (1) the energy released by a nuclear bomb (through the video of a nuclear explosion), (2) the time required to cook a turkey, (3) the fairness of salary (according to the philosophy of Aristotle), (4) the loan payment and annuity, (5) the maximal sustainable catch of fish, (6) the microscopic and the macroscopic models of traffic dynamic, and (7) the crystallization processes. Many classical mathematical models, concepts, and methods are presented on the book. For example, they are the Kolmogorov-Avrami model for crystallization, well-posedness, numerical solvability, stability, financial mathematics, dimensional analysis, Lotka-Volterra model, functional equations, differential-delay equations, scalar conservation law, shock and rarefaction waves.

Math Modeling

I got this book for a 400/500 level applied mathematics course. This had to be one of the toughest math course I have ever taken. It isn't the books fault, it's the subject. You had better have a good grounding in Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and Partial DE to use this book. Here again it isn't the books fault. It's the subject. The book covers a broad spectrum of math modeling techniques that include things like crystal growth, rain drop patterns and traffic models. It's a fascinating book but you will need every piece of math you ever knew. I do wonder whether this should have been restricted to a graduate level course.

Awesome book!

This is a great summer, southern story that had me hooked from the very first page. Now this Savannah, I not only adored but fell in love with. She reminded me of me so much. I really enjoyed reading this book. The southern boy in this book, not only said things that made me gasp, but grip my heart hard.

You got to love your southern boys. Always real and true, this boy Jack, said everything right and more. He is your type of guys who knows what he wants. And when he finds it, he will not let it go. He is reasonable and very responsible, the type every girl wants to marry. He did things all the right way in courting. He was true to everything he said.

Savannah, I loved her! She had a lot to learn but I was glad that she had a good mama, and great boyfriend, Jack to teach her to breath. Savannah would freak out over every little thing. And if I remember correctly, I was the same way. Something went wrong and Bam, I am was in a fit! I loved that while Savannah would go into a fit someone was there to hold her, to help her breath again. But more so, I am glad that Savannah was beginning to learn to breath on her own.

The plot of this book is nothing dramatic, but just wonderfully simple. It didn't need much drama or problems cause the characters were enough for the reader. The characters were a whole another story themselves. If you want a down right, good ol' southern book, read this. I can assure you, it will not only make you feel southern in your mind but in your heart!

Like Breathing

In the novel Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman, a young woman named Savannah - named after the tornado that was passing through and being announced on the radio when her mother was in labor - struggles to find her strength. Troubled by her severe asthma, she is one point of her three-person family, alongside her younger brother Dog (Dogwood) and her single mother, who can't hold job due to Savannah's frequent hospitalizations and emergencies. Her father left when she was three - and the asthma started the day he left. Meanwhile, her mother won't tell her employers about her daughter's condition due to pride.

Savannah has a summer job at the public library, where she works alongside a librarian called Miss Patsy. Her main task is re-shelving books. She also runs storytime sometimes, and some days it's a headache, but some days the kids are attentive.

Meanwhile, Savannah's English teacher, Mrs. Avery, put Savannah's name in for the Program for Promising High School Students, a semester-long college experience for tenth graders in Blue Ridge Mountains. Only 50 kids from both Carolinas can go. She filled out apps even though she knew they couldn't afford it. And goodness, how that hurts. If you've been there, you get it.

Then Savannah meets Jackson. She hopes it's something more than summer love, and it seems to be, as Jackson supports her through hospital stays and other worries. But when Jackson has to leave, Savannah must live for herself, to fight her fragile trappings and find strength.

Herbsman's writing is lovely, and Savannah is a thoughtful and perceptive narrator. All of the characters in Savannah's life - family, friends, mentors - matter to her, and her appreciation for them is endearing. Some of the most beautiful moments and poignant reflections in the book come at the close of the chapters. Savannah ultimately realizes she has to find out if she can breathe on her own and be her own cure, not wait for somebody to come and rescue her like her mom waited for her dad for 12 long years.

If you're a Sarah Dessen fan, you should read Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman.

I can't even lie, this cover drew me in like candy! Ha, Ha. I just finished, read it in about five hours. Easy fun, and interesting read!

The book is written in a thick southern dialect! It flows though, and sometimes I read a sentence twice, but I get the gist of it.

Savannah has asma, and the asma is so bad sometimes she has to go to the hospital and has to stay for days. Because of this, her mom loses jobs, and sometimes neglects her brother. Savannah's mom has strict rules for her, so she should, she's only 15. She meets a boy, 18, named Jackson and for some weird reason instantly they fall for each other. He saves her life carrying her home to get her inhaler, and she saves his, pushing him out of the way before she gets hit by a train while stalking him!

This book starts off slow, but as the story progresses you like it. It's written in present tense so you're reading it like it's happening now. It was kind of interesting, my first book this way. Very neat. Savannah sometimes comes off as older, but in the south girls do grow up faster, because they have to. She's really smart, she wants to write, loves to read and has a great head on her shoulders. Because she's so young, you can see the childlike manner in how she handles her relationship with Jackson, and her family. But, she's fifteen you have to expect her naive views, and her selfishness; you just don't quite understand why Jackson accepts it. I mean the book is a love story in a way, and the character in the end grows up a bit, and she realizes the comfort she has in her family. I love the family relationship, they are well meant for each other. Although I feel her and her brother should have been closer, and her mother more stern on him.

This book is a great read for people who just like to read about another possibility of life, and a kind of good description of a healthy relationship. Since she is fifteen it doesn't seem that way, but I mean like I said, it just is. He's not taking advantage of her, he's super nice,and he basically follows the rules her mom gives. You see how each person in the relationship helps the other accomplish their dreams, and this is the sweet cute relationship, you want to read about.
